Since 1875, Heartland Family Service has been strengthening individuals and families in our community through education, counseling, and support services.

Rhonda Rupert has an enormous heart

Rhonda Rupert

Even larger is the impact that she has made on the lives of those we serve.

Rhonda goes above and beyond when it comes to volunteering. This year, she took on the exigent task of organizing the donations storage room at our Sarpy office. Rhonda sorted through piles of clothing and organized them according to size and gender. She purchased over 200 plastic hangers so that everything could be neatly hung–making it easier for our clients to find what they need. On top of her full-time job; Rhonda continues to volunteer several hours every week to keep the storage room in order.

This summer, our Safe Haven women’s shelter received a Jessica Simpson concert tickets as an in-kind donation. When Rhonda found out about the donation, she decided to make the outing an opportunity for the women to feel special and rented out an entire salon so that each woman could get her hair and makeup done before the big night out.

“Rhonda truly amazes me. She fills in wherever a need arises. If she hears that a woman at our Safe Haven shelter is in need of slippers, Rhonda will go buy a pair of warm slippers and deliver them to the shelter that day. She is remarkable – we are so fortunate to have her as a volunteer,” says Laura Zachary, Heartland Family Service volunteer coordinator.
