Since 1875, Heartland Family Service has been strengthening individuals and families in our community through education, counseling, and support services.

The Jefferson House was established for youth birth to 18 and their siblings to provide temporary placement after they leave their home and while they wait for a more permanent placement. Most of the youth is placed in the shelter because these children are products of abuse and neglect, a chaotic home environment or are re-entering the community from a more restrictive placement. The staff provides 24-hour supervision, crisis stabilization, an on-site school, a behavior management program, and so much more. Volunteers are needed to assist with home repairs and cleaning, assist youth with tutoring and crafts and to take youth on field trips.
