Solomon Girls Present “Love in Bloom” Summer Recital
Eighty-seven Solomon Girls Center members, ages 5-18 years, were involved in the summer recital of the summer at Trinity Lutheran Church on July 31. “Love in Bloom” was the theme of their presentation, involving song and dance. A luncheon followed the performance for the girls’ families.

Three resident artists, Janet Ashley, D. Kevin Williams and Kristina Oreskovich helped the girls put together the performance, under the arrangement of Michael Dryver, director of the Omaha School of Music. The artists’ residency was funded by the Nebraska Arts Council.
The girls were involved at all levels of the performance, including concept, writing, performing, and stage assistance. The teen group of girls produced a video photo collage of the summer activities and the teens wrote and performed an original song, “The Teen Struggle,” which is on a CD and will be broadcast on KPOW FM Radio This Sunday, August 8, between 7:00 and 10:00 pm.
The final recital is the culmination of the summer program of the Heartland Family Service Solomon Girls Center. In addition to the arts program, the summer offers field trips, fashion design, culinary arts, cheerleading, etiquette and manners, goal setting, career speakers and other fun and educational activities.
A leadership curriculum is taught through various activities and discussions, and a weekly column of leadership tips is printed in the Omaha Star.
Solomon Girls Center and Heartland Family Service express their heartfelt gratitude to the members of Trinity Lutheran Church for hosting the Solomon Girls Center summer program for the second year.
The mission of the Solomon Girls Center, a program of Heartland Family Service, is to provide activities and guidance to enable each girl to find her own identity; develop her potential; and achieve a sense of responsibility to herself, her family and her community. Activities of the year-round center are developed around culture and career awareness, recreation, the development of social and relationship skills, and a visual and performing arts program.
